ACCEPTABLE KINGSHIP

“Is kingship the need of the hour for the overall good of Nepal”?If so,is it appropriate to stick to an institution that is ages old whereas the people and the society have gone through a phenomenal and a revolutionary change. If the society does a metamorphic change then the king should also change accordingly, so that he earns the respect of all the varnas of Sanatan Dharma and of the different tribes and communities of the land.

Given the present scenario and the fact that Nepal has been functioning without “a king “as a head for the past so many years, will the people reaccept it? Or is it essential to have a “Santana Dharma rastra only?Does Sanatan Dharma need the institution of kingship or is it something that is being over valued and over emphasized and given over importance. Is Nepal fine by just being a Sanatan Dharma rastra and create its unique position as the only Sanatan Hindu (omkar)rastra in the world? The requirement of king or kingship in the past was because of many factors that was the need of the hour then but maybe now only Sanatana Rastra will suffice. If different ideologies can change for the convenience of governance, so to respect the desire and rights of people then the basic concept of kingship has to change too. The king, in an emancipated and people ruled democratic system like Nepal should also be an institution that is true follower of the dynamic concept of Sanatana Dharma.

A land or region or area that has the best of knowledge gathering where wealth is guarded and prosperity prevails for all the layer of society without conflict and discrimination and without causing disharmony is what is expected of rulers and kingship.

Kingship or kings are not about “KINGS “as envisaged today but of the social structure or stairs/steps that prevailed in the past when the concept of kingship originated. The leader or chief or head of the social net that needed to be bonded together was given a name King-Rajah-Ruler. Now a days the sense of power and confidence is generated equally among all the population or residents of a country/region and is well governed and ruled with full equality for all living and dead. Welfare for all without discrimination, irrespective of what it does to the personal life of the chief, leader, ruler or king as such.Integrity, commitment with a sense of welfare of the area of dominance and the people is utmost in a ruler/king.

Kingship should never be self centered and be above excuses in carrying out duties ethically and morally with value added towards the ultimate, where all have to go whether they are “Raja-runk or sanyasi” ,rich or poor of any varna/caste,man,woman or child including all the living beings on this planet and ultimately the whole created Universe where everybody comes to perform their best. Inculcate the sense that the land you are ruling and delegating is never to be handled as a system of landlord or zamidari. The concept of rule is not to own but to give, distribute opportunities, delegating what is for all to all. Vedic concept of kingship(Bishnu roop)is always Darida Narayan (poor man’s god). The Bishnu who sits in vaikuntha is called Daridra Narayan or the king of poor and his wife is Lakhsmi-the goddess of wealth. The

king is basically observed as an entity of good , who works hard so that prosperity is matted to all in the land he governs with Lakshmi by his side. So the art of governance leads to prosperity for all and should never be for one only.Is a master or ruler follower of Sanatana satya and raj Dharma personified? In Vedic times the person who took decisions was called Yazman (ruler/king).Once he ascends the throne/seat as a king/ruler/head,he/she is marayada purushotam.King is a caretaker of his janta-people’s land and property and not a ruler/master with a stick to herd, loot and exploit them he/she. Typical kings concept was a perceived concept for a few to rule by making and projecting a person to the exalted position of a ruler – and making him the ultimate epitome of goodness. Unconscientious Kings have no right to rule and Sanatana parampara has various examples of how they have been done away with by various forms and movements (forms)Avatars and movements. Avatars that were specifically born to do away with evil/ruler the oppressor has to be penalized by the gods will for the welfare of the living on this (Loka)planet.

The knowledge of dharma is utmost for a ruler in the Sanatana path of life for good governance. The concept of a king-from being a Daridra Narayan to Vishwa Rupa- kingship has been a dominant identity revealing a ruler as Sanatana satya(eternal and timeless truth)in the vedic past.Raj Dharma so is how to become good ruler and has been a concept inculcated and taught by powerful and knowledgeable men like Chanakya to create families of rulers on how to rule.Raj Dharma literally mean the art of governance , practical or in theory. Perhaps Kautalya(Chanakya)was the one who brought it to significance nearly 3500 years ago. He conceptualized it like a modern day management wizard, scenarios, puzzles to solve, prespedium, acumen ,decision making abilities is indeed a dilemma. So from Vedic times a decision maker or decider was termed as yajman or Head or king. Decisions could be positive or negative but judgments had to be made for good or bad. So, a good king has his personal priorities always kept low and have the rights and happiness of the people he is acting on behalf foremost.

A Sanatana king should be above the concept of Varna, caste, creed, colour or of any various communities and tribes. Therefore the ruler should never be identified as belonging to a particular one of. He/she should be above all but still be below all. Kingship has always been, in the Sanatana context, about maintaining the social structure and fabric of a nation. The pivotal role to maintain this balance is played by the head of this fabric which later on got termed as king and became an institution. What makes the whole gamut of

kingship most appropriate to our modern system of thought and beliefs has to be the multiple hues of the past blending without greed or ambition with the present to give its present texture of karma, dharma and janama-the rule of law and justice and prosperity. Kingship is not an ambition because kingship is sans and self-pride, self-importance and self-good because it is not a Mahabharatha “issue which creats a Mahabharatha. To a ruler, duty, transparency and responsibility towards the people and nation and to create and maintain a balanced environment and a system offering opportunities for all is the Param Dharma.”

So, as emphasized previously with the changing of times the ruler, king should be constitutionally not permitted to marry from his own varna/caste but before ascending the throne it should be made compulsory to marry from the caste of the dalit community or any janjati or other tribes but of Sanatana fold only of his nation. This act will not only bind the institution of kingship in Nepal and the Sanatana Dharmis but also project Nepal as a truly modern, truly free and liberate nation in the world. Further this mandatory act of intermarriage will not only create a sense of respect, faith and dependence between the castes and communities but it will definitely stop to proselytize innocent and simple people of the hundreds of years old independent nation-Nepal.

As such, if the people of Nepal and all the Hindus , Buddhists , Jains and Sikhs (the Omkar Sanatana family of the world)wish to give kingship a chance then it should also be ready to accept the radical changes and be magnanimous to end all ills to benefit all the Omkar Sanatana followers around the world. This will be a game changer not only for the future of Nepal but also for the Omkar family all around the world. So the concept of a truly “secular” kingship is the need of the hour for the survival of Nepal and the crown “God save Nepal.”Last but not the least, the ruler can he a man or a woman.
